Throw and Catch Relay
This is a good game because it involves all the students at the same time, although it is a little difficult to demonstrate.
The two #1 students each stand in front of the whiteboard. The two #2 students stand at the opposite end of the classroom.
WHITEBOARD
Team A Team B
#1s #1s
#3s #3s
#4s #4s
#5s #5s
#6s #6s
#2s #2s
The #1 students throw a ball to their #2 team-mates. If the ball is not caught successfully then they must try again. When the ball is successfully caught by a #2 student, the #1 student returns to their seat and is replaced by the #3 student of that team. #2 then throws the ball to #3. When #3 catches it successfully, then #2 is replaced by #4. #3 then throws to #4 and so on until all the team have played. The first team to successfully complete this throw and catch relay is the winner and is awarded points.
Once the students have understood and played the game, the teacher simply has to say “Go!” to start the next round off i.e., drill the vocabulary/sentences for a half minute or so, then shout, “Go!” and the game starts up again.
