Reading Games

When reading a text there are a few ways to keep it interesting.

Wrong word - the teacher reads the text to the students. Now and again the teacher will get a word wrong on purpose, replacing the correct word with a synonym or possibly an unrelated humorous word. The first student to correct the teacher (by shouting out the correct word) wins their team a point.

Plus one minus one - the students read the text, possibly three sentences each. How is it decided which student will read next? The teacher will say their name. If the student whose name is called has lost their place in the text, is daydreaming or not following along, they get minus one for their team. If they do a good job they get plus one. If they read extra well, maybe they could get two points.

Text Quiz - the teacher reads the text to the students. Then the teacher puts his/her book down and the students must quiz the teacher on the text, to see how much he/she has remembered. Then the text is read again, this time by the students (either all together, or each taking a turn). Then it is the students' turn to close their books and the teacher quizes them, awarding points, etc.
